Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Exercycle Connect.

About the app

Is Exercycle Connect really free?

Yes, if you have a compatible BH Fitness Smart Bike. With the activation code included with your bike, you get access to all features for free and with no subscription: real-time tracking, FTP and maximum heart-rate setup, zone monitoring, workout history and export to Strava, Apple Health and Google Fit.

Can I use the app without a BH Fitness Smart Bike?

You can download it and view your workout information in real time for free. The history-saving and export functions to Strava, Apple Health and Google Fit are limited and require an activation code.

Free access to the app is included exclusively with the Smart Bikes listed as compatible (Osaka, Lyon, Lyon Climber, Lyon Multimedia, Xcalibur Magnetic, Xcalibur EMS, Exercycle and Rhone). Outside that list —whether it’s a bike from another brand or an unlisted BH model— you’ll need to purchase a monthly or annual subscription to unlock all features.

If you have an unlisted bike, the free real-time display feature lets you check beforehand whether the Bluetooth FTMS connection works correctly with your equipment before subscribing.

Can I use the app if I don’t have an activation code?

Yes, you can download it and use it in a limited way. Without a code, you’ll be able to see your workout information in real time (watts, cadence, heart rate, speed and zones), but the history-saving and export functions to Strava, Apple Health and Google Fit won’t be available.

Can I create multiple user profiles in the app?

Exercycle Connect currently works with a single profile per account. If several members of your family want to use the app each with their own profile and activation code, write to us at bhpro@hotmail.com indicating the main account email and your Smart Bike’s serial number, and we’ll provide a new code for family use.

Compatible bikes

Which BH Fitness Smart Bikes is it compatible with?

Exercycle Connect is compatible with the entire current Smart Bike range:

  • Osaka
  • Lyon
  • Lyon Climber
  • Lyon Multimedia
  • Xcalibur Magnetic
  • Xcalibur EMS
  • Exercycle
  • Rhone
Does the app work with a bike not listed as compatible?

The app is designed and optimized for the BH Fitness Smart Bikes listed as compatible. If your bike supports the Bluetooth FTMS standard, you can download the app and try the free real-time display feature: if the data shows correctly, it means the connection works. Even so, we don’t guarantee that all features will work correctly on bikes not included in the official list.

Connection and devices

What connection technology does the app use?

Exercycle Connect connects to your Smart Bike via Bluetooth FTMS (Fitness Machine Service), the industry-standard protocol for connected fitness equipment. This ensures a stable connection, accurate real-time data reading and compatibility with the main virtual cycling platforms on the market.

Which devices does the app work on?

On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch (with iOS/iPadOS 14.0 or later), Mac with Apple chip (macOS 11.0 or later), Apple Vision and Android devices with Bluetooth Low Energy.

How do I connect my Smart Bike to the app?

Turn on your bike, open the app and enable Bluetooth on your phone or tablet. The app will automatically detect your Smart Bike through the FTMS protocol. If you have more than one bike nearby, you’ll be able to select yours by the device name, shown on the back of the monitor.

Do I need a heart-rate sensor or strap?

It’s not essential. You can train recording watts, cadence and speed without additional sensors. If you want to work by heart-rate zones, you can connect a compatible heart-rate strap via Bluetooth.

Training and data

How do I set my FTP or my maximum heart rate?

From the app settings you can directly enter your FTP in watts or your maximum heart rate in beats per minute. Based on those values, the app automatically calculates your training zones and displays them in real time during the session.

Can I train by power zones and heart-rate zones at the same time?

Yes. If you set both parameters, you’ll be able to view your work by both power and heart-rate zones during the workout. You decide which to prioritize depending on the type of session.

What data can I see during the workout?

Watts, cadence, speed, heart rate (if you have a strap connected), distance, time, intensity zones and estimated calories, all in real time.

Export and integrations

How do I export my workouts to Strava?

Link your Strava account from the app settings just once. From that moment on, every session syncs automatically. The Strava integration works on any device, iOS or Android.

Why don’t I see the option to export to Apple Health or Google Fit on my device?

Native integrations depend on your device’s operating system. On iPhone and iPad, export goes to Apple Health (Google Fit doesn’t appear as an option). On Android devices, export goes to Google Fit (Apple Health doesn’t appear as an option). Export to Strava is available on all devices, regardless of the operating system.

Can I send my data to Garmin Connect or TrainingPeaks?

Exercycle Connect’s native integration is only with Strava, Apple Health and Google Fit. From Strava you can try to re-send your activities to Garmin Connect, TrainingPeaks or other platforms you have connected in your ecosystem, although export to apps not officially listed is not guaranteed by BH Fitness and will depend on the settings and policies of each third-party service.

Compatibility with external simulators

Can I use Exercycle Connect and a simulator like Zwift, Rouvy or Kinomap at the same time?

No. BH Fitness Smart Bikes have a single Bluetooth module, so they can only connect to one app at a time. Exercycle Connect was created precisely for those who don’t want to pay a simulator subscription but do want to keep real control of their workouts: real-time tracking, zones, history and export to Strava.

When should I use Exercycle Connect and when an external simulator?

Exercycle Connect is ideal when you want to train by power or heart-rate zones, record the session and export it to Strava without paying subscriptions. Simulators like Zwift, Rouvy or Kinomap are ideal when you’re looking for an immersive experience with virtual routes, 3D worlds or group workouts. Since your Smart Bike can only connect to one app at a time, choose based on the type of session you want to do that day.
